Sarah Calise (she/they) is a public historian, archivist, and writer working in Nashville, Tennessee. She has a master’s in public history and a master’s in information science, and currently serves as Curator of Community Histories at Vanderbilt University Libraries. Their research and writing focus on civil rights, gender and sexuality, social movements in the United States, and how personal histories are inherently political. In 2021, she founded Nashville Queer History, an all-volunteer community organization dedicated to researching, preserving, and sharing the LGBTQ history of Middle Tennessee; the organization has completed a driving tour of historic LGBTQ sites, been involved with two upcoming queer historical markers, and looks toward future projects that preserve Nashville’s queer landscape.
