Ellen Dement Hurd is the Historic Preservation Team Lead at HNTB, where she ensures that transportation projects comply with regulations that protect historic resources. She previously worked for the Tennessee Historical Commission and as a historian in Georgia and Washington. Hurd holds a bachelor’s degree in American History and History of Art from Vanderbilt University, a master’s degree in Architecture, History and Theory from the University of Washington, and a certificate in Historic Preservation from the University of Washington. Hurd has served on Historic Nashville’s Easements Committee since 2016. In addition, she is a board member of the Buchanan Log House and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Southeast Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, and the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities.
