REPRESENTATIVES FROM METRO HISTORICAL COMMISSION AND NON-PROFIT GROUPS HISTORIC NASHVILLE AND TENNESSEE PRESERVATION TRUST WILL JOIN TO LEAD THE EVENT
What: Formal presentation of Save the Cordell Hull petition to Gov. Haslam’s office. Comments and media avail with Tim Walker, Metro Historical Commission; Connie Pearson, the creator of the petition; David Currey, President of The Tennessee Preservation Trust and Melissa Wyllie, President of Historic Nashville.
When: Wed., March 5 at noon
Where: The Cordell Hull State Office Building, the west side’s central entrance, 425 5th Ave N, Nashville
Background: The Cordell Hull State Office Building was included in the Tennessee Preservation Trust’s 2013 Ten for Tenn ranking of most endangered historic places in Tennessee. It was also included in Historic Nashville’s 2013 list of threatened historic properties: The Nashville Nine.
Constructed from 1952-1954, the Cordell Hull Building is a Mid-Century Modern state office building eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The building was slated for demolition, but the State has granted another look at options for the building. Preservationists hope that the public support behind the petition will encourage lawmakers to preserve the important historic building for future generations. View the petition here.
